Can We Talk About…

Cool LA florists?

Business is seriously booming (or, should I say, blooming) for florists in bright, sunny California.

If you know me, you know that I have this secret dream of dropping everything and becoming a florist. I literally just want to quit everything and stuff myself in a greenhouse where my only friends are peonies, muscaris, succulents, rhaphiolepis and hellebores.

Since we’re finally starting to see spring, and basically everyone I know is about to get married, I thought it only necessary to let you know about these awesome flower magicians:

Moon Canyon

Kristen Caissie and Amy Lipnis make up the kickass team that is Moon Canyon.

Their stuff is very detail oriented. I love that they’re not only all about their product (DUH) but also into curating everything surrounding their product. Their brand is consistent and their “accessories” are always beautiful.

ImageImageImageImage

And their wreaths are even cooler.

Image

They do tons of workshops, some recently in partner with my favorite LA gal, Bri Emery, in her new studio.

Twig and Twine

“Heather Williams, a Los Angeles based floral and event designer, is the brain and brawn behind Twig & Twine. She grew up wandering her mother’s and grandmother’s gardens, forming an early appreciation for the lovely blooms that grew from the ground each season.”

Image

Puffy pinks, beautiful white and pal blues, soft yellows! Heather is all about that feminine touch.

She mostly does weddings…obviously!

And then there is Yasmine Mai.

She’s my favorite.

Isn’t she just a doll? Vintage, long dresses. Darling arrangements. Elegance and grace. It kills me!

She also teaches workshops regularly! #sharethatflowerpower

Every Month is Black History Month

Even though Black History shouldn’t be limited to one month a year, I mean each time you pair jelly with its life-long partner peanut butter, or reach the last of the ink in your fountain pen, or throw that wrinkly shirt on an ironing board, you are using a black invention. Though, it is nice to have a calendar reminder to explore black history in America.  With that being said, can we just talk about how I want to die and come back as Dorothy Dandridge?!

3375_mediumThe lady could sing, dance and act. She appeared in movies along side some the greatest actors, like John Wayne, headlined shows in Las Vegas and the Apollo Theater, and was the first black actress to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.  She gave serious meaning to the term “Triple Threat” and all while looking so damn exquisite.Dorothy-Dandridge-celebrities-who-died-young-32313497-500-704

Dorothy got her fame during the 1930’s and 40’s when women’s wardrobes were delicate, luxurious, feminine and just slightly sexy.

Dorothy appeared in “Lady from Louisiana” in 1941, and I caught her in an JAX beer ad!

With all the bodycon, crop top, sheer from head to toe we’ve been loving in street fashion, we often forget that being draped in fabric can be a beautifully empowering way to mix things up.

Can we talk about…?

Creatures of Comfort and Zimmermann’s F/W ’14 lines?

LITERALLY DEAD.

Jade Lai took inspiration from the mystery board game Clue.

Firstly, I love Clue. And murder mysteries. And plum-colored lip stains.

Guess what? The model’s lips were beautifully berry-stained. Love at first sight? Yes.

All the ladies were heavily cloaked, rocking brilliant blue checks, asymmetrical silhouettes and 90’s razor cuts.

Image

My favorite look of the collection. Army green has been my power color for the past couple of weeks. Plus, the oversize blazer and high waisted slit-skirt-over-creme-knee-length-shorts-thing makes me swoon.

ImageImage

Never underestimate the power of the turtleneck.

ImageImageImageImage Sex appeal + librarian chic?

Now, Zimmermann.

For only being its third show in the states, it seriously knows what’s up.

Image

Always fresh. Always killin’ it. Always crispy (with that feminine touch).

Image

Do you ever want to wear anything else but partially wedged point-toe oxfords for the rest of your life?

ImageImage

This shit makes me feel like a flirtatious warrior princess.

Image

Watch me shake my hips as I slice my enemy’s heads off.

ImageImage

Like, the fuck is this silhouette?

My boobs could never hold this up. But I’m tempted to spend over $2,000 to try.

ImageImage

My favorite look.

Perfect midi skirt to swish and sway in.

Cute platform heels.

Cuddly cropped knit.

Boxy leather.

NECK BOWS!

It’s the perfect juxtaposition.

Just don’t forget that berry-lip, ladies.

xoxo + happy #nyfw!

What do we want? SPRING. When do we want it? NOW.

Is anyone else done with this cold weather? We survived the polar vortex and now we have to deal with jumping from a comfortable 70 degrees one day to a low 40 by the next morning.

Not having it.

Plus, I’m just aching to break out my spring clothes.

I cannot wait until I don’t have to layer myself like an unattractive mix-matched poodle in order to keep warm. This is the south, we weren’t prepared for this.

So, this is what I’ve been dreaming about the past few days.

Iree Island Life Part 1

There’s nothing like epic cold weather to make you wish you were on an island. Our shop lady Erica spent 13 days in the West Indies. Here is her first installment on Caribbean fashion and how to get it here at The Revival Outpost.

Under three thousand people live in this city

Soufriere – Under three thousand people live in this city

“Sa ka fete?” What’s up, how’s it going? “Iree” Good, relaxing. St. Lucia is a small island just above Barbados. Small towns fill the valleys in between the mountainous island and create a down home, everyone knows you -your auntie-grandma-cousin- or neighbor-feel that us Southerns know only too well.

Inspiration is a funny thing; it can be hidden in the clouds or blatant in the streets. When you don’t have cars filling roads, Internet at your fingertips and material items blocking your view all you can see is the beauty in the details.

The spirit of St. Lucia is much like other island cultures: Live easy, live simple, and live happy.

Restroom

Women’s and Men’s Restroom signs

Even on an island, we women can’t be too over dressed. Working women on the island were conservatively stylish. Layers of light fabric draped over brown skin.  Colorful accent bows added to kinky cornrows. Three inch heels float over New Orleans esq cobble stone.

Lookbook: Three Floor Fashion

Image

The lookbook for TF is literally all we’ve ever wanted in our lives and more.

ImageImage

The sharp lines and angles. The colors. The acid-dripped layering. The shadows.

It’s brilliant.

ImageImage

Not to mention genius. I love the aesthetic. It really captures and fits their brand perfectly.

Bravo, Three Floor Fashion, you’ve officially won us over.
